TRAIL REPORT

We appreciate your visit to our area!  Thank You!  Happy Trails!

ARROWHEAD STATE TRAIL - thanks to the MN DNR
2/23/2012: With the additional snow coverage, we are planning on grooming the entire trail system again for the upcomming weekend. Have been favorable reports from the locals north of Orr. However, Lost Lake Swamp to Cressent Country Club is still fair to marginal but ridable. Area North of Cook in rough condition. The southern part of the Arrowhead from Cook to Tower has between 1-2" base and 7" in the woods, overall condition of that stretch of trail is fair!

2/23/2012:  Reports along the border, Voyageurs Nation Park Area, Int' Falls, Kabetogama, Ash River, Crane Lake, Buyck and Orr range from fair to excellent conditions including Voyageurs Nation Park lake trail system. On-land trails are in fair to good condition, marked groomed lake trails are excellent. Grooming tractors are running on a regular schedule.  International Falls area conditions may be found at rainylake.org or ridetheborder.com Questions may be directed to David Dill 218-780-2278.

INTERNATIONAL FALLS AREA - thanks to Int'l Voyageurs Snowmobile Club
2/22/2012: Our operators finally received what they've been waiting for all winter, heavy wet snow to groom. They're out there as I write this report, once again showing snowmobilers why we have the best trails around. The season is getting short so gas up the machine and enjoy the weekend but remember to watch your speed and be safe.

CRANE LAKE AREA - thanks to Crane Lake Visitor & Tourism Bureau
2/21/2012:  Trails have held up pretty well through the busy holiday weekend.  Riders are reporting fantastic condition even with the warmer temps.  If we could only get four fresh inches.....well guess what WE DID!!  Last night we were blessed with 4 fresh inches of snow and it is still coming!  Check out the local web cams to see the snow still coming.  Looks like we could see an additional 3-5 inches today!!  Groomers should be out again as soon as it stops snowing and cools off again.  Don't miss the Crane Lake Challenge coming on March 3rd.  Call 800-882-6287 for more details.

VOYAGEURS NAT'L PARK
2/23/2012:
Nearly seven inches of snow fell over Voyageurs National Park earlier this week. Snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing conditions are perfect. All of the park’s 110 miles of snowmobile trails and over 10 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails are now open and ready for visitors to enjoy. Travel along the lake trails offers snowmobilers a ride through a national park with opportunities to view wildlife and scenic grandeur. Skiers will see numerous animal tracks and signs of wildlife as they travel through the forests.

Hazardous pressure ridges are still present, but have not been too active. Snowmobilers must continue to use extreme caution and only cross the pressure ridges at designated crossings along the staked route.   Slow travel speeds are highly recommended.  Crews are grooming snowmobile trails on a weekly basis except from Saginaw Bay East to Kettle portage due to a pressure ridge. Some of the land portages have a few exposed dirt patches due to minimal snow cover.

The new 9-mile long Kabetogama Lake Ice Road is open for two way traffic and is being enjoyed by park visitors. The road follows a route along the south shore of Kabetogama Lake between the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center and the Ash River Visitor Center.

Outstanding scenery is one of the reasons why Voyageurs National Park was established. Please enjoy the scenery as you ride and follow the snowmobile speed limit of 45 mph on frozen lake surfaces and 25 mph on all overland portages.  Speed limit signs are posted at trailheads and overland portages.
